My students need a Farmer's Market, cash register, and pretend money, to encourage my students to learn and discover basic money value and increase financial literacy.
Our school consists of students in grades PreK-5th. They come from various backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. We are a very diverse school district with a low socioeconomic background. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. The common factor for all students is that they love to learn. Their combined unique personalities create a fun, loving, energetic, and inquisitive classroom environment. This project will allow me to introduce money, finances, & nutrition in a fun and hands-on way, perfect for my Kindergarten students. The students in our classrooms are all from diverse backgrounds and bring a uniqueness to our classroom community. They are 5 and 6 years old. They are clever, outgoing, and enthusiastic little learners.

A classroom Farmer's Market will allow my students to explore money and financial concepts as they discover how our fruits and veggies go from, farm to market, to our homes! When you teach children about money by incorporating it into play times, you provide opportunities for them to practice skills such as collecting, counting, and spending money as they increase their use of financial vocabulary. Learning about money also helps students understand other mathematical concepts such as addition and subtraction, more than, less than, and equal to. My students love to explore the world around them. The register and play money can help teach them money recognition and they can even extend their financial skills by incorporating the materials. The Farmers Market will give my students hands-on opportunities to practice counting, adding & patterning! They can use the self-
