My Students

My school is a Title One school, serving students from low income families. While my students come from a variety of backgrounds, each one of them is so eager to learn. I enjoy walking into my classroom each day to see nineteen faces smiling back at me. Each of these students came to kindergarten with different skills and abilities, and they all progress daily. They are hard workers and I’m am hoping to instill in my students a lifelong love of learning.

My Project

Through DonorsChoose.org, my project Kinder Readers was funded and I was granted a listening center with fairytale read-along books. The addition of the informational read-along books I have chosen will be a great asset to my listening center. These informational books will teach students through the nonfiction text and it will also keep students engaged, as they will be learning facts about topics that interest them. By reading books using the listening center, my students will hear how to appropriately read text. The listening center also allows students to explore books, without being overwhelmed by having to read the text themselves. They will learn how to read from left to right, turn the pages in the book, and learn facts from the books as well. My students currently love going to the listening center and these books will help them to enjoy it even more!
