Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Kindergarten teacher at a Title I public school located in Connecticut. My students receive free breakfast and lunch. Due to the lack of district funds, there is no funding available for classroom resources that my students desperately need. Several of my students receive special educational services and English Language Learner services.
Despite challenges, my students are enthusiastic and have a love for learning!
School is a safe haven for them where they are comfortable and appreciate everyday routines and procedures.
My Project
Last school year, our classroom was flooded when pipes burst and water damaged a great deal of furniture and furnishings in the classroom. My Kindergarten students would adore a new alphabet rug for the front of the classroom, where a number of learning activities take place.
A bright, new reading corner would help foster their love for reading.
We do not currently have any alternative seating options, so comfortable seats for reading are greatly desired. The more welcoming and cozy this space is, the more excited the students will be to learn!
Our classroom also has only 12 cubbies for students to store coats and backpacks. Therefore, they are currently having to cram 4 students into one cubby, which creates a very disorganized area with their belongings not easily accessible. Having a couple more sets of cubbies would make a world's of a difference!
