Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 16 Bilingual Kindergarten students that are remote learning with a range of abilities, needs, and concerns this school year. My students are in a low income/high poverty school in which 84.4% of the students receive free or reduced-price meals.
Our students have not been to school since Spring Break let out and they have been remote learning from the safety of their home due to the COVID-19 virus.
They have been provided with the opportunity of checking out an iPad to work on activities from home to continue the progress of learning. Also, students who have opted out have been able to pick up packets. Remote learning has been a struggle for many.
However, the main thing that concerns me is if they have basic needs met, as many parents may be out of work due to businesses that closed or because they have had to stay home to help their children with their school work. New financial burdens arose from this virus.
My Project
With the novel Corona Virus, I would like to promote healthy habits at home. I always promote these at school.
When I receive these hygiene items, I will make a bag for each of my students and deliver it to their homes, along with the food items on my other project.
The hand soap is to promote washing their hands. Handwashing with soap removes germs from hands. This helps prevent infections since people frequently touch their eyes, nose, and mouth without even realizing it. Germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose and mouth and make us sick.
The hand sanitizer is to promote keeping their hands clean even when there is no soap around. It requires less time than hand washing. It will act quickly to kill microorganisms on hands.
The shampoo? Well they need to take a bath everyday.
I know they will be so appreciative of these items.
