Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When you make your own discoveries through learning, that is when it really sticks and makes sense. Children need time to explore through learning with play and independence or small group interaction. These opportunities develop oral language and problem solving skills.
My students are fantastic, energetic, funny, excitable, and extremely lovable.
I have one little girl this year that randomly yells out "I love learning!" We are a low income area at a Title 1 school in an urban community. My students deserve the best learning environment, practice and approach I can give them. After being an upper grade teacher for a while, I am new to primary this year and desperately need materials for my students.
My Project
I plan to use these resources in small group and independent learning centers. I work with my students one-to-one and use small groups, but even at such a young age they need independent practice and learning discovery time. This will be given to them at their choice- either they make work independently or with a group of peers. These Instant Learning Centers for Language work on building phonemic awareness, word building practice, sound discoveries, and reading skills. Additionally, my students will gain confidence working independently, participating in community based learning their peers, and building oral language and vocabulary.
It is my goal to provide a dynamic approach to teaching for my students.
Having been a upper grade teacher, I know where my current students need to go and what is going to be expected of them. I incorporate many different approaches with my teaching practices to help students meet their learning goals.
