Help me give my students a collection of books that address social emotional learning issues such as kindness, anger, anxiety, sadness, safety, and love.
We are lifelong learners! My students are a hard-working group of kids who love to learn.
My students come from a wide variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and many of my students speak a second language at home.
With such a diverse classroom I am looking for character education that goes along with my social emotional learning lessons to create a family atmosphere where all students feel loved, accepted, and a part of our classroom community.
My students love to "shop" for books from our classroom library to store them in their book boxes. I love to read to them and hope that I foster that love for reading with my students by introducing them to a wide range of authors and genres. In addition to strong academics, I want to help encourage a healthy and active lifestyle that will continue as they grow. Morning fitness activities are one of their favorite times of the day.
My Project
This year I am really focusing on the whole child with a study of social emotional learning. Many children struggle with the skills related to social issues, and reading books, discussing, and writing about these issues will help us all be more kind to others.
Many students struggle with issues dealing with anger, anxiety, sadness, kindness, and being respectful and responsible, and therefore lack problem-solving skills.
A set of books that address these issues will help us to learn that everyone is different and has different struggles. We are all unique, but we need to be kind and respectful to all.
