Our school is thriving right now with a student body engaged in learning, a faculty dedicated to educating and an administration committed to supporting inquiry based learning. We all strive to create experiences that allow students to apply their learning and use it to enhance their lives. The students are wonderful, young adults that love to collaborate with each other and discover new ideas. The environmental science classes are a diverse group of remarkable teenagers that are full of questions willing to work hard to find answers. Everyday I look forward to listening and learning from them.
The environmental science classrooms will be Investgating the daily electrical usage of their every day appliances and mobile devices. The activity brings home the idea of where each individual can conserve energy, and leads into a unit on renewable energy sources. Quantifying a personal energy consumption and extrapolating out to family, community and global energy usage creates an informed citizenry.
We need Kill A Watt meters to allow a demonstration to become a personal investigation into energy consumption.
Using these meters in the classroom to gather information and use this information to change their world. Students often take their dependence on electricity for granted.
