My Students

Everyone deserves a chance to participate in class activities.

Our school has a wide range of students with special needs ranging from autism spectrum disorders to severe cases of cerebral palsy.

Some are more severe than others. Students attend a regular public school but may be in a separate class due to their disabilities. Some of our students need special devices to communicate and participate in daily lessons.

My Project

We have 7 students who are nonverbal and have limited mobility and are confined to wheelchairs. These switches will allow them to have a voice in order to participate in daily classroom lessons and activities. Teachers will record responses and students will be able to participate in discussions by pushing the button, giving them a voice they wouldn't otherwise have. This will also give them a chance to manipulate classroom items such as turning on a radio, using specialized scissors, or activating a toy that they can not interact with without these switches. These switches will give students a way to get out of their wheelchairs and participate in class activities with a simple touch of the switch.

Every student deserves a voice and should be able to participate in class everyday.
