Kids with Autism Need Manipulatives.

My students need manipulative to help learn letter sounds. Our school does not provide these as we have a traditional pencil and paper type curriculum. Manipulatives will allow students to explore!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The amazing students that I teach are in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade and all of them are diagnosed with moderate to severe autism. All of the students in my class are impacted by autism in a variety of ways, but the most common ways are a lack of social awareness and a lack of functional speech. All of the students that I teach are diverse and bring their own unique perspective to the classroom.

Our school is predominantly English as a second language and we do everything we can to foster communication.

My Project

Having letter and word manipulatives to ply with will allow students to engage multiple parts of their brain with learning. It will allow them the freedom to explore letters and sounds and play with peers while they learn!

It can be difficult for students with autism to access the same curriculum that their peers do.

Access to manipulatives so that they can feel the letters and see how to sort by sound really open up new pathways to learning for my students. It is also a fantastic way to encourage sharing and socializing with peers with and without disabilities in the classroom.
