In my first grade classroom students get a chance to learn, explore, and grow. I believe in teaching to the whole child which means combining social/emotional learning with the academic standards set forth by the state of California. Students are learning to become good citizens along with the academic skills they need to be successful. I work hard to create a classroom culture where all students' needs are met and every child feels accepted and respected.
My classroom utilizes peer learning groups which is why it is so important to create a safe and comfortable space for students to share, ask questions, and explore.
By encouraging and supporting my students in their learning, they are not afraid to make mistakes and try new things. Along with teaching to the whole child, I believe in teaching students to have a growth mindset. When they know it is okay to make mistakes they are more confident in their learning. This helps them become even better students. I love seeing 6 and 7-year-olds encourage, support, and be proud of their classmates. I hope that after being in my classroom, my students have everything they need to be successful in the future.
My Project
The Flex-Space table and rug along with the Soft Seats will create an area where my students can work together on projects and have peer conferences. It will also serve as a space for students who need flexible seating to do their work. These items create a unique area for students in my classroom. It is ideal for STEM activities, expert groups, and art projects.
The Kids Size Conference Zone will provide an approachable space that feels inviting.
Due to the size of the table and the comfort of the rug and seats I hope my students will take ownership of this area. I would love for them to have choices and feel like their classroom meets their learning needs.
