Help me give my students flexible seating, like lap desks, kid's office chairs that swivel, and hands-on manipulatives to help them feel at home and be successful!
My students are all full of energy with a desire to learn about things they can apply in the "real world." All of my students have very different learning styles and learn best when they are comfortable and feel at home! Every individual requires differentiation and extra support, whether it be learning by doing, watching, reading, etc.
I want my students to consider our classroom their home and feel like they can open up to learn and be successful, regardless of their differences!
A year and a half ago, our community was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey and quite a few of my students were affected by the storm. Having a comfortable, fun and interactive place to learn, will ensure success of my students!
My Project
Flexible seating and hands-on activities will help keep my kids moving and involved, since all of my students are very active learners! Flexible seating helps my students become more engaged in our daily activities. This project will provide seating options of floor seats, kid's office chairs, and floor computer desks for my class. All of my students need movement and a variety of ways to sit and move at the same time, ensures students will have a way of feeling comfortable and at home while being successful. This project will also give my very active learners hands on math manipulatives called Math in a Flash to fill in the gaps they have missed in years passed, which is part of my role as their special education math teacher. These discovery bins are filled with hands-on activities to set up stations and visually learn what they could apply to everyday life (including fractions, money, measurement, and geometry). Kids learn better by doing, rather than listening. It is important to use the other manipulatives and hands-on activities to incorporate visuals and fun lessons by using the dry erase dice (used for reading, writing, and math), buzzers (to show what they know by doing games such as jeopardy) and dry erase puzzle pieces to create well written sentences.
When students are provided comfortable and flexible choices for their seating and discovering activities, the focus on learning becomes easier.
Students are able to be comfortable and these will all create a learning environment that works best for all their needs!
