My students need clipboards, dry erase boards, and dry erase markers in order to have the ability to move around the room while completing collaborative or project-based learning activities.
I have 17 students in my class. They enjoy opportunities to participate in collaborative learning activities. Students can often be found working on projects, games or experiments in teams of 2 or more students. Our classroom is rich with books and magazines, and my students enjoy browsing the book baskets to choose a good-fit book for independent reading. Student writing, work samples, and artwork line the walls of the classroom. The children enter the room ready for a day of fun and rigorous learning activities.
My students enjoy learning with hands-on and project-based learning experiences, especially if they involve experiments, art, or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) challenges.
They come from diverse backgrounds, and some come from families facing financial hardships. Several of the students take home bags containing food to help them through the weekend.
My Project
Sitting at a desk all day to complete work is old school! I incorporate a lot of movement into our daily schedule in order to help the students stay focused and engaged.
My students love to participate in projects involving movement around the room to work on learning tasks with small groups, but they would benefit from new tools to make this time more effective.
We play games frequently in which students move around the room in order to solve problems on task cards displayed throughout the room. When participating in these activities, my students would benefit from having clipboards to use instead of using a notebook as a portable writing surface.
We have some dry erase boards, but they are old, scratched and falling apart. They have marker stains from years of use and no longer wipe clean. New dry erase boards will allow us to spend more time learning and less time trying to clean the boards. The students love to share their thinking about a lesson on the dry erase boards, and new boards would allow their work to shine!
The zippered pencil pouches will be used to store the markers and erasers to keep them organized and protected so they last for multiple school years.
