Help me give my students an opportunity to learn about and discuss current events, and to generate out-of-the-box ideas for responses to challenging events in the world.
My students come from homes where their parents read to them, and where education is valued. Over half of my students are reading above grade level. The same is true for math. My students love learning through inquiry, rather than being lectured. They are hands on learners.
One third of my class is on school leadership.
They are smart, respectful, and driven. My 28 students come from classes of 34. They enjoy our smaller classroom community. They take advantage of every opportunity to speak, and they speak positively to one another.
My Project
My students will use these news magazines to read about and respond to current world issues and events.
Students will use Time for Kids during social studies, reading, math, and science.
They will use them to learn close reading skills which will help them throughout their entire educational careers. They will use them during math to respond to economic issues. They will use them during science to learn about new discoveries and environmental issues.
Students will use these news articles to develop pro/con lists they will use to create opinion papers and speeches. These skills will improve writing across genres
