Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As second language learners, many of my students enter my classroom not knowing how to speak any English. What has amazed me year after year, though, is their ability to band together as a family and help one another succeed. The students in my room learn not only Math, Reading, Writing, Science and Social Studies, but they learn how to use their manners, be kind, and help each other no matter what their background story is.
All of my kids have one thing in common though, and that is their love for learning.
The students have very curious minds, and are constantly stretching my thinking with their questions, comments and points of view. Even the struggling students are eager learners, and are very determined to make growth in their skills to ensure they can help their peers in need. It is the hard work and perseverance of these students that continue to encourage me to give my all.
My Project
The use of flexible seating in my classroom has many benefits to each student who shares the room with me. With a variety of seating options, students become in charge of their own learning and ultimately become more engaged and on task during class time. It's important to understand that each child in my room has completely different needs emotionally and academically. Therefore, there isn't any reason why it makes sense to say each child can do their best learning in a regular desk and chair.
Students feel empowered when they are given the opportunity to be in charge of their learning and make their own decisions within the classroom.
We all have those students who insist on tipping their chairs on the back two legs while they work. The only thing a teacher can think when that is happening is the many different ways the student can hurt themselves if he or she would to fall over. The wobble stools provide movement for children who need some stimulation to remain focused during work times.There are also certain kiddos who feel more comfortable sitting or sprawling out on the floor, this is where the lap desks come into play. The lap desks are great because the student also gets to choose the best space in the classroom to take their supplies, work, and stay focused and comfortable. The wobble cushions provide a different type of stimulation during work time. Overall, all of these choices for seating in my classroom will lead to increased engagement and interest which in turn will lead to higher achievement!
