This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a K-2 music teacher in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, where 88% of students qualify for free lunch.
I feel that rhythm and movement are fundamental to both musical and physical development. Movement gives students a chance to release energy and to express themselves creatively. Providing students with rhythm instruments and the skills to play them assist with coordination and musical appreciation, in addition to developing confidence and enthusiasm.
I am asking for some djembes, rainmakers, boomwhackers, and a class set of rhythm sticks as well as a parachute and scarves to help my students develop their sense of rhythm and creativity. The instruments are large enough and varied in type so that students will be able to explore their sounds and use them easily. The parachute and scarves will assist with fluidity of movement and imaginative play. All of these instruments and materials are colorful and interesting to use and see in action and my students would have lots of fun using them to experiment and learn about music and movement.
Thank you!
