Kids Love to Read... When Their Books Are Engaging!
Help me give my students new books encompassing many genres, interests, and reading levels that will reach all 735 of my readers. Kids love to read when they have access to books that they find engaging!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 730+ students live and study in the Hermosa neighborhood, whose Spanish translation is "beautiful." It's a working-class neighborhood on the northwest side of our city. I'm lucky enough to be their librarian, meaning I know each and every student in our school.
Although many of my students come from homes lacking resources needed to compete with their suburban counterparts, they're eager learners who love to read and love getting their hands-on technology.
They are the reason I get out of bed each morning. Our library is a safe haven for all to read, learn, thrive, and have fun. They inspire me each day to make our library a better place.
My Project
I can honestly say that just about all my students love to read. I never hear a student say they don't like to read, but occasionally I'll hear one say that they can't find a good book!
The vast majority (94%) of my students are low income, 13% are a diverse learner (special ed), and 54% are considered "limited English" -- despite some obstacles, they're still eager readers who cannot wait to get their hands on great books!
The books on this list will keep my readers hooked and begging for more!
Almost daily as of late, I've been asked when I'm getting the latest "Dog Man" book, "Fetch 22", by Dav Pilkey. I keep telling my students that I'm working on it! (I need your help!)
Did you know that "Carmen Sandiego" has made a comeback?! In addition to the new Netflix show, there are graphic novels that my students have been begging me for.
I'm requesting many manga/graphic novels, as my sixth graders are obsessed with "My Hero Academia." On this list, I'm requesting the latest releases.
Picture book readers will giggle at "When Unicorns Poop" Did you know that when a unicorn poops, rainbows arch across the sky? And when they toot, shiny bubbles float all around!
They'll also love "Dragons Love Tacos". Our copy of this beloved book was lost, but readers LOVE to hear what happens when dragons get their hands (paws? talons?) on spicy tacos!
I have a feeling my students will love "Emergency Kittens!" Got a problem? Having a tough day? Maybe you need . . . EMERGENCY KITTENS!!!!! Who needs boring superheroes who leap across giant buildings when your day can be saved by the cuddly, super-cute, full-on feline charm of Mimi, Twee-Twee, and Adorbs, aka EMERGENCY KITTENS!!!!
