My students need a document camera for use in the classroom to view images that are projected onto the SMARTBoard.
Technology is becoming an increasingly more common tool used in the classroom. My school is still in the early stages of incorporating technology into every classroom. A document camera is a very simple yet very valuable tool to use in the camera. My students would benefit greatly from it.
I work in a suburban elementary school in Virginia.
My school has a diverse population and has students with varying needs. Like any child, no one student learns the same way. When I give directions in my class, students who are not auditory learners can very easily tune out important information. For students who are visual learners, viewing a worksheet or assignment being held by me would limit the amount of information they are able to process because the print and/or visuals are too small. This is where document cameras can be very beneficial.
Document cameras are very valuable tools for students and teachers. Teachers can use the equipment to project worksheets, activities, assessments etc. onto a large SMARTBoard for most if not all the class to see. This is a critical feature of the technology because projecting a larger size of an assignment alleviates most problems that students have with seeing and "zoning out" which is inevitably created by that problem. During my student teaching experience, students presented personal objects to the class using the camera so more of the class could see. So not only can document cameras display one dimensional objects, but they can also display three dimensional objects. Document cameras are also good to capture moments or images that are important by taking a picture. They also have the capability to record an experiment or process of working on an activity that the students could then review again later.
I am a first-year teacher this upcoming fall.
I will have a SMARTBoard in my classroom which can display the images from the document camera. We need a camera, however. My students will benefit from having this piece of technology in the classroom. From my own experience during student teaching and other practicum assignments, I have seen many benefits for using this equipment. In the smallest of ways students feel more involved and are more apt to pay attention with the use of this camera.
