Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our middle school has over 75% students classified as economically disadvantaged. There are also 2 elementary schools that we also provide weekly food for who have an average of 97% economically disadvantaged students.
Our hope is that if the Kids Feeding Kids Backpack Program can address the food deficiencies before the low academic performance and behavior starts, then imagine how much more productive and successful our students will be.
This program provides a sense of security for students and families not only on the weekend, but also for times when students are out for holiday and summer breaks and do not have access to the free breakfast and lunch that is provided during the regular school days.
My Project
The Kids Feeding Kids backpack program began one year ago to provide weekly nutritional support to the more needy students in our school. With the help of students and organizations like NJHS and Student Council we create 45 bags of food each week which usually include 2 breakfast, 3 main meals and 4-5 snacks.
The Kids Feeding Kids Backpack program is supported entirely by donations.
With these donations, we will be able to to provide the food pantries highest needs such as vegetables, breakfasts and proteins, which are not donated as often.
