Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our district is located in a rural area. We have a great school with a very dedicated staff.

Over 64% of our kids qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

We receive federal Title I money to help support our students, but there are many special needs that are not funded. Many of our students do not have the same opportunities available to them as others.

As I teacher I love helping my kids experience new things and watching them grow and succeed.

My Project

These specially selected read-aloud books teach important social and emotional lessons. Many of our students spend a lot of time at home on screens and are not learning these important skills. By reading together in the classroom and discussing the situations in the novels the students learn empathy through the characters. The books are a good resource for other reading skills like visualizing, comprehension, sequencing, and note-taking.

Also, they can be a launch pad for subjects like writing and art.

Most importantly, they will help me integrate the social-emotional learning into core curriculum and teach these very important lessons.
