My students need to be able to have daily access to a computer with the Internet to do scientific research, stay up to date on today's scientific discoveries, and type up lab reports. Having Scholastic Science World magazines will encourage my students to read content related material.
Most of my special education students do not have a computer with Internet access at home.
The neighborhood around the school was severely damaged due to the May 20th tornado. Some of my students are still displaced in hotel rooms or living with family members. Having a student computer in the classroom for assignments and homework will greatly benefit all of my students.
My Project
Science Standards are changing to include more reading/writing skills. A computer in the classroom with Internet will help my students to reach these expectations. I am requesting a DELL laptop with a 2 yr warranty and a wireless mouse. Students will be looking up information on specific science topics for research projects that will be discussed in class. The Internet will allow them to have more options when investigating recent discoveries. My students are required to do an article review each week. They read an article from a science magazine, answer questions, and then form their own opinion based on the information. A subscription for Scholastic Science World will give them exciting new topics on their level. Students will also be writing simple lab reports. Most of my students have poor handwriting/spelling skills. Typing their reports will keep them from getting frustrated so easily and giving up. The flashdrives I am asking for will be used for student work storage.
My students need to have a readily available computer with Internet to complete specific science classroom assignments and projects.
Having a computer in my classroom will benefit all of my students. The Scholastic Science World Magazines will make recent topics exciting for my students and they will actually want to read about science!
