Kidpreneur- Project Based Learning on Financial Literacy
My students need books on financial literacy such as Better Than a Lemonade Stand and Teach Your Child to Fish, Scholastic Book credits, and a button maker machine.
I am entering into my 14th year of teaching and I have loved every minute of it. There are wonderful days and there are challenging days. However, my love for children and teaching never changes.
The smiles, the laughs, the light bulbs are all signs of a happy and growing scholar.
My classroom is full of eager learners. My scholars are exceptional. They come to school to learn, play, and create. My scholars' needs vary in severity and area. They have behavioral needs, academic needs, and social needs; each as unique as the individual learner.
My Project
Financial literacy is a lifelong skill. Learning about it now, will help prepare our youngest for a more stable and happy future. My scholars know money buys them the things they want. However, they don’t realize how hard their parents (or teachers) have to work to make things possible.
My scholars will develop an idea and bring it to life where they will trade their hard work for class dollars to buy the things they need and want.
This project is intended to teach my scholars to be inventors and investors. Rather than a grade, my scholars will earn class money based on a rubric of their idea and how well they execute it. With the money earned, they will be able to buy the things they need (ex. pencils, glue sticks, erasers, etc) and the things they want (books, computer time, game time, etc). The Scholastic Book Club gift card will allow me to purchase books, supplies, and trinkets for my students to "buy" as they earn money. The books will teach my students about money concepts such as saving. As my students master a concept or vocabulary word, they will earn a button to brag about it with the school community and their parents! There are a million great ideas that haven't been discovered. Maybe they will have one of them! Thank you for taking the time to read and support my students!
