Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is filled with curious, hardworking students. More than half of my students come from low income house holds. Therefore, I want to make the classroom the best environment possible where my students can express themselves creatively and be exposed to all sorts of learning experiences.
My goal is to provide them with a second home (although for some it may be like a first home) that makes them feel happy, safe, and comfortable while instilling a love for learning.
Hearing “I’m so happy to come to school” or “ I love my classroom” is invaluable.
They motivate me and teach me lessons that go far beyond math and reading. It is heartwarming to see their eyes light up when we conduct an experiment, or their smiles and excitement when they master something they've been working so hard on.
My Project
Having a kidney table in our classroom will let me provide all my students with an interactive and comfortable small group instruction time. Since we have rectangular tables, it makes it difficult to meet the different needs of every student at once.
Small group instruction on the kidney table, can provide a comfortable environment and boost the confidence of students who might not otherwise participate in a lesson or activity.
Small group instruction encourages teamwork as everyone in the group is working toward achieving the same goal.
This kidney table would provide me with an opportunity to target the needs of students in a smaller setting. Aside from that, the dry erase surface of this table allows me to make small group instruction fun, and not just use pencils and paper..I will implement expo markers in my lessons, magnets, etc.
The table even has a seat for me in the middle so that I can easily guide and help every student, it is also big enough for every student to learn comfortably and interact and collaborate with classmates.
