Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students are a diverse group of eager young learners in the community of Desert Hot Springs California. What I love most about teaching these students is the enthusiasm, curiosity, and excitement they bring to school every day. I find joy in the smiles and “ah-ha” moments that are proof to me that learning is a fun and rewarding experience in our classroom community.
They are learning how to have respectful collaborative discussions with partners, and they have opportunities to work together in small learning teams.
In addition to learning the foundations in reading and math, our kindergartners are learning social skills. We learn how to be a good learner, a caring friend, and a problem solver. We also discover the world with hands-on-science learning experiences, which is when I really see my students burst with excitement!
We have a lot of fun, and learn from each other in the process!
My Project
My class is in need of a kidney shaped table in order to help me run my small group learning time more effectively. I currently conduct small group instruction at either a rectangular shaped table, or on the floor. I can realistically manage about 4-5 kids on the carpet, and at the rectangle table, I can effectively manage only 3-4 students. A kidney shaped table would make a huge difference in my instruction because that would allow 6-8 students to be in direct eye-line, and in hands reach to me; which will lead to more focused children, with less opportunity for distractions.
Your donation to our project will help to improve and increase student attention and focus which will ultimately help to increase our academic achievement.
With your help, my students will be provided a more comfortable learning environment that is conducive to maintaining their attention and engagement. In addition, I will be able to meet with more students on a daily basis, in a small group structure, which will provide more opportunities for effective individualized instruction.
