Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The demographics of the student body are diverse. More than half of our student body is Latinx or Hispanic. We have a high number of English language learners, and a high number of students who come from low socio-economic backgrounds.
Our students come from hard-working, dedicated families.
Many families work at the Tyson plant in town, and their hours are rigid. Many students don't get to spend as much time with their families outside school due to working hours. Many students have the responsibility of taking care of younger siblings while their parents work.
School provides a place for students to relax, explore, and grow. We are dedicated to providing a school experience that is applicable, attainable, and enriching for the diverse needs of our student body.
My Project
Our elementary library needs some additional seating for students besides just wooden tables and chairs. There is some outdated art on the walls, and no nooks, crannies, or fun spaces for students to hang out.
Our elementary library needs an upgrade; it's not a comfortable space.
When students have reading time during library class, they all bunch together at the tables. This doesn't naturally allow for students to have their own space to read freely. Students would love being able to sit on the floor, on an ottoman, and enjoying more cheerful wall decor.
