My students are active, empathetic children. Our school is a magnet school, within a Title I School District, attracting children from all over the city and from the immediate urban neighborhood.
Our caring First Graders are participating in UNICEF Kid Power Ups to earn points and unlock food packets, helping to feed malnourished children around the world and we would like to earn even more points and send even more packets through UNICEF's Kid Power Band program.
The children are very exited to be helping others. They love seeing their points increase, knowing they are getting closer to sending food to a child in need.
Our First graders are very active too! Running outdoors (as they wear their Kid Power Bands) is essential for their bodies, as well as their minds.
My Project
The first two goals of the United Nations Sustainabilty Development Goals are No Poverty and Zero Hunger. I hope to help our children work towards meeting these goals through UNICEF Kid Power. With UNICEF Kid Power Bands, every step the children take will help unlock food packs for malnourished children. Running with Kid Power Bands tracking their steps, they will earn points toward sending Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUFT) to hungry children around the world.
With Kid Power Bands, we are empowering children to be active global citizens, building global competencies, helping to end hunger, and keeping children fit.
We are currently completing Power Ups/Brain Breaks from UNICEF Kid Power. We dance and exercise to the videos and earn points as we take breaks during our busy academic day. It would be wonderful if the children could earn even more points running outside each day.
Our district recently lengthened our day and our children are inside the classroom for longer periods of time than ever. I want to get them outside running. Our Physical Education teacher has introduced a running club and I would like our children to participate, but I also want the children to run with a purpose. With UNICEF Kid Power Bands, each step they take would help not only themselves, but a hungry child.
