Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into the school eager to learn everyday. They are strong, hard working students who deserve nothing but the best. Yet, they are at a disadvantage. Not because they do not think the way others do, but because of the resources they lack at home.
80% of my students receive free and reduced lunch.
Many of them need basic supplies. Their parents don't have the luxury to be able to buy school supplies. Instead, they are working 2 jobs, just trying to pay rent and put food on the table. Please help me give my students everything they need to make their school home comfortable, loving, and encouraging!
My Project
In my class, I am trying to build perseverance and resilience when reading novels. Since many of my students are below grade level, I need to make sure the novels I pick are interesting and challenging, but not overwhelming.
I want to spark their interest in reading novels, so that in the future they don't get overwhelmed with having to read a textbook.
The novels I chose touch on subjects that the kids experience in their own lives, such as divorce, friendship, and overcoming obstacles. I want my students to see themselves in the main characters of these novels, and find hope in the future for their reading skills and their life.
