This year is my 22nd year in education. It is a blessing to spend my days at this beautiful community school in the spectacular mountains of Western North Carolina. My drive to work is full of beautiful landscapes. My school is kindergarten through fifth grade, with fewer than 150 students. Our families are full of pride but times are difficult and some students are considered homeless.
We may be small, but our dreams are big.
The community is deeply invested in the education and nurturing of each student. Economic status does not provide a barrier to learning; instead, it provides a challenge this school accepts on a daily basis. With your help, we can give these deserving students everything they need!
My Project
Have you ever worn a pair of uncomfortable shoes? Have those shoes ever given you a blister? Now imagine wearing shoes with holes in the soles or shoes that are two sizes too small. We have a small supply of shoes in our clothing closet but most of those shoes are for bigger feet. Little feet are constantly growing! I've watched students at my school wear shoes with the sole hanging off or with their toes crammed into the tips of the shoes. This is uncomfortable and unnecessary! Students dealing with issues such as being homeless or hungry shouldn't have to worry about their shoes! I am requesting 11 pairs of fun running shoes so my students never have to wear uncomfortable, torn, worn and damaged shoes again! Your kindness can help keep our clothing closet stocked so our students will continue to receive what they need while maintaining their self-esteem.
