My Students

Despite the fact that our town is a rural, mill town, many of my students live in poverty. Because it is a small school, the students are close and support one another. They are inventive and social. They work hard and are very supportive of one another. Because of this small-town upbringing, it is difficult for our students to look beyond this small community and what is offered out there.

Our administration and community are very supportive of the local schools and the students benefit from this support.

The students of my school give back to the community through many activities as they appreciate the community they live in.

My Project

Our school is starting an new club that supports our LGBTQ community and promotes the need to embrace the diversity in our school and community. This big event is going to feature groups that represent our small community throwing the school colors at the students with a reception after that allows the participants to discuss the ways in which all people can work together to create a healthy safe environment.

The group has decided to kick the event off with a grades 3 - 12 color walk and run.

Students and faculty and staff will dress in white t-shirts that have been designed by the newly formed LGBTQ/Diversity Club. A diverse group of individuals, from the LGBTQ group, our Native American population, the local police, and our Canadian neighbors will be stationed throughout the race to throw color on participants.
