Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The first day of kindergarten is almost here! What an exciting time for the new youngsters coming into the classroom. Oh, Boy! It is a day filled with new games, fun experiences, and meeting new friends. Most students are eager to show off their new school supplies, but for the families in our community, this can be a struggle.I teach 24 students in a high poverty community in California.
The majority of my students are English language learners and receive free or reduced cost lunch.
My families try and give all that they can and are always willing to volunteer time and energy in the classroom. Unfortunately, the additional costs that can come with starting school can be difficult. As a teacher, I want to make sure every student has what they need to be successful. But, budget cuts and limited funds for basic supplies make it hard to provide all the necessities for my students.
My Project
My students learn through play and engaging materials. I would like to provide my students with hands on materials they can use at home with their virtual learning.
The sight word and language journals will help students stay engaged with reading at home.
Parents can easily follow along with the simple tasks each day to grow their students' reading skills. The stylus and the alphabet writing books are great tools for students to use for handwriting. The playdoh will help students develop fine motor skills. They can also use the dough to form letters on alphabet mats.
