Ms. G. from Dayton OH is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need individual whiteboards, dry erase markers, pencils, paper, and erasers for next year. These items will help class run more smoothly as I set up their folders for the beginning of the school year.

I work with a group of students who are mostly English Language Learners. Most of my students come from Africa and range from being born in the US to immigrating as little as a few months ago. Our community is about ninety percent Somali and multi-lingual. While they sometimes struggle with written communication, they are extremely creative and caring. They are always willing to share their culture with anyone who will listen. It makes my classroom such a rich, learning environment!
My students are some of the most joyful, helpful and cooperative children I have met so far in my career.
I work in a charter school so we are in a low-income neighborhood and work with mostly low-income students, but this never dampens their spirits. They have the benefit of having large, supportive families so they are held accountable and have a desire for success. They work extremely hard to do their best.
I am working to kick off the new year with supplies that will set my classroom up for success. Whiteboards and dry erase markers will allow me to bring more hands-on interaction to things like warm-ups, spelling and grammar practice, and other previously individual activities. These items will also save paper. I am also ordering paper, pencils, and erasers. These items are always in short supply in my classroom. By providing these items, it will ensure a more smooth running class. Also, I will use some of the paper to set up folders for the kids for the beginning of the school year. These folders will come with paper, my classroom rules and expectations, examples of how I expect papers to be set up each day, and other handouts that will be important for the quarter. Not only will students be set up for success, I will be less stressed out about whether students are prepared for class.
