Help me give my students soccer goals, a rebounder, and balls to allow them to participate in an enjoyable sport even when they cannot have outdoor recess.
I teach a wonderful group of students from grades Pre-Kindergarten to 5th many of which are limited to having new experiences and opportunities only when they are in school! We are from a high poverty area in Southern West Virginia with one of the highest rates of premature death due to diabetes, heart disease, and drug-related illnesses. Many of these students are raised by someone other than a parent and have a great number of challenges to deal with daily.
Each one of these children is full of energy and enthusiasm and--like most other children--love to learn new sports and have the best skills possible while playing.
We do everything we can, even with limited resources, to assure our students have the best and most opportunities for improving their overall health and building the foundation for healthy habits throughout their life.
My Project
Recently, our local 4H organization has started a no cost soccer league to encourage students to become more active and to encourage families and students to become more involved in their community.
Our kids are anxious to improve their soccer skills on a daily basis.
Since they cannot go outside during the winter months, it would be very valuable for them to have a soccer rebounder and set of soccer goals for indoor use during their morning activity time and PE classes. However with the extremely limited funding we receive, purchasing such equipment is nearly impossible after purchasing just the very basic equipment such as balls, jump ropes, etc. We want our kids to have great stuff too!
