I work with 4th graders. This is a fun age! They are starting to really gain their independence and become passionate about who they will become, but they're still young and cute! :) I think it's a super important year to explore, take risks, try new things, get uncomfortable to get comfortable, and gain confidence and self assurance in their last year of elementary school before heading off into the scary world of middle school.
It's my job to help make learning fun, comfortable, and meaningful.
4th graders remember how you made them feel, and I always want my students to feel like a million bucks. So far, so good! This new group of incoming 4th graders deserve the same experience!
My Project
I have been a teacher for 8 years. Every year, the best part of my classroom (Kids words, not mine) are, ready?... the PILLOWS! What?? I know, you heard that right. Every year I spend my entire summer yard sale shopping for fun, bright, silly, comfy pillows. Why?
Think of this, it's time to read your new book before bed, you're excited, you sit down and, sit up straight at a desk?
Ummm that doesn't sound enjoyable to me, and it's not for my students! When I get a new book, I want to cozy up and lay down and hold that book like it's the gold that it is. I want to relax my mind and body and dive in, literally!
My reluctant readers are instantly relaxed and happy before even opening their books because they can sprawl out around the room and lay on the pillow. Some on their bellies, some on their backs, some resting against a wall, some upside down and feet up - as their teacher, WHATEVER WORKS IS GOOD FOR ME!
Each year I give the pillows away in a raffle and get new ones because, well, gross.
This year, I had a baby! And my yard sale shopping availability is very little. But I still need new pillows, so this is where I ask for your help! Please help me make my classroom the peaceful, comfy, cozy, safe zone where my students can relax and ENJOY learning.
