Ms. Youngson from Baltimore MD is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need basic school supplies to make sure they start their year off on the right foot. All of the included materials will be used in daily instruction in our 3rd grade ELA classroom.

I am the proud English/Language Arts teacher of these high-energy, excitable, and curious third grade scholars. In our classroom, we challenge ourselves daily to improve our reading abilities.
Living in the inner-city of Baltimore means a lot of missed opportunities for these third grade students who deserve the best education.
Unfortunately our school system does not provide us with the funding or materials our students need to reach their potential. This leads to our children not always receiving the best, most personalized instruction. These students love to learn, and I want to make sure I am able to provide them with as much knowledge as possible in my short year with them.
Coming from such an economically disadvantaged neighborhood, most of my students do not come to school with the school supplies that they need for a successful school year. All of the supplies included in this project are materials that these students will use daily starting on the very first day of the school year.
Every supply asked for will be used in daily instruction to ensure that students are prepared for engaging, and effective literacy instruction.
Composition books are used for word sorts to learn new phonics patterns and rules, routine writing to practice new writing techniques, and character education to learn strategies to handle conflict. Glue sticks are used to glue word sorts and interactive character education activities into composition books. Folders are used for daily classwork to keep the students organized and hold them accountable for all completed work. Sticky notes are used to gain student understanding through an interactive way to get student responses. All other materials are used daily in the classroom as well for word study, reading, and writing instruction.
Without these supplies, students will not be prepared for learning, and class routines will be delayed due to lack of materials. This project is not about the latest and greatest gadgets, or new initiatives in curriculum. This project is about giving my students the basics for their school year.
