My students need one Entry-Level Portable Keyboard and 8 adapters for keyboards. Batteries do not last more than a school year, and it's time to replace them with adapters.
Power Us Up! We have keyboards but no power adapters. It's time to get plugged in so we play our keyboards.
Our school is in a densely populated but small city with over half economically disadvantaged population and severely impacted by the hurricane.
Many students will never be able to afford to buy an instrument or receive private lessons outside of the school environment. We provide the only opportunity to attain instrumental experience. After Hurricane Sandy, we had families that lost power for over a week as well as all of their possessions on their first floors which included furnaces, hot water heaters, washer/dryers, cars, personal items.
My Project
Many years ago several keyboards were purchased. The cost of replenishing batteries has become too costly. The keyboards have sat unused in a closet. By purchasing adapters for the keyboards we can be powered up and start playing them once again. An additional keyboard is also going to be purchased in order to maximize the number of students participating.
My students will be able to learn to play piano.
They will participate in music ensembles, thereby learning how to work collaboratively with peers.
Learning to play keyboard will be a source of self-discovery for students. This activity will allow children to reveal talents of which they may not be aware. Studies have also shown that musical studies improve attention spans and listening skills and enhance overall academic success.
