Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 3rd grade in a large urban elementary school. Over 90% of our students are eligible for free lunch and most of the rest are eligible for reduced lunch. I offer free piano lessons to any student in 3rd to 6th grade who is willing to come to school 30 minutes early. I currently have 6 students who are taking lessons and I have 5 more who are interested. The students have a desire learn music, but come from homes that can not afford lessons. The benefits of learning enrich a person for a life time.

I do not have enough keyboards to give all the students who want lessons the time it takes to learn and practice. The word has spread among students and parents that I am willing to teach free of charge.

I would like three more keyboards so I could give more students lessons at the same time, and give the students enough time to practice.

Music enhances a person for a life time. The benefits of reading notes, finding rhythms and patterns, and the simple enjoyment of playing is a life long benefit.The self confidence earned by learning to play helps students in all their academics.
