My students come from diverse backgrounds (94% minority), yet they are unified in the pursuit of musical excellence. Music class provides a safe community for creative, emotional, and social opportunities. Students learn employable skills like goal-setting, teamwork, and responsibility through ensemble while making lifelong friendships!
I teach at a school in central Virginia where all students can receive both free breakfast and free lunch, and about half of music students speak English as a second language (current or former ESOL students).
Throughout the year, these talented musicians share their craft by performing for school concerts and at community events. Last school year, twenty-two strings students earned superior (top) ratings at the district solo and ensemble assessment, and the orchestra won first place middle school orchestra at the Kings Dominion Festival of Music.
My Project
Currently, our electric piano is plugged into a low wattage bass amplifier, and it's a rumbly mess! We need an upgrade to a real keyboard amplifier.
Your donation will provide a versatile 50-watt amplifier with three line input channels, a dedicated aux input, and support for an XLR vocal mic.
This amplifier has a headphone jack for "silent" practice during large ensemble rehearsals, incredibly helpful when young pianists are first learning how to play in an orchestra setting. The output jacks will enable us to interface directly with PA systems and recording devices. We will also use this amplifier in guitar class whenever we are short an amplifier. Please help provide this essential piece of music equipment to my students!
