This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in a large urban school district in a low-income area. Uniquely our students don't act like they don't have everything that they need and they show pride in everything they do. Our school community is so special because the staff and students try their best to make our school a place where they can feel safe, grow and learn regardless of the struggles beyond our walls.
My students deserve the same opportunities as those in school who have more of funds.
Unfortunately, due our limited budget technology needs fall very low on the list for fund distribution.
My Project
Technology is the way of the future. Last year I was given the opportunity to start a computer lab in a K-8 urban school. I inherited a lab of computers. My students have had a great time learning about so many different aspects of technology, including STEM activities, internet safety, keyboarding and research.
Unfortunately, our budget does not allow much for technology.
This year I would like to start to refresh some of the equipment that is in need of replacement. With 325 students traveling through the lab every week, sometimes equipment gets worn out. In our case the keyboards and mice have seen better days. Replacing some items every year will help keep the lab up and running smoothly so my students have no disruption in activities.
