Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 5th grade students are a part of a Title I school that serves grades K-5. Our school consists of 90% English Language Learners who are eager to grow and succeed with the help of the rigorous academics I try to provide as an educator each and every day! Our classroom size ranges from 23-28 students, many of whom come from bilingual households and all receive free and reduced lunch.
My students are faced with a multitude of challenges, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Regardless of these challenges, I watch their eyes widen and their faces glow when they walk into the safe haven that is my classroom. My students constantly inspire me, motive me, and force me out of my comfort zone while I force them out of theirs. They are a group of future scientists, doctors, professional sport players, and even teachers! I hope to keeps my students avidly thinking and dreaming with the right tools and supplies that will prepare them for success.
My Project
The use of technology is essential within a classroom. Working in a Title I school, the access to technology is limited, and our classroom was not provided with enough laptops to help further the language development of my ELL students. My students will use the Chrome Laptops to gain access to a multitude of literacy resources, including ImagineLearning, Classworks, Reading A to Z, FrontRow Education, Prodigy and ReadWorksDigital. These resources help ELLs and all students grow in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This will also help students advance reading levels throughout the year, setting them up for successful state examinations.
