My Students

I teach second grade in a Title I school. The majority of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many come from a diverse population with a wide range of ESE with special needs, ESOL and speaking a language other than English at home. Despite the challenges that they face with distance learning, they still have an eagerness for learning.

They struggle with focus and I am constantly having to come up with differentiated activities to keep them engaged and with distance learning, I have to do more with differentiation.

They are very creative and get excited when they know they have mastered new concepts. I will have to change that excitement to get them to give effort online. I instruct them to always give effort and to always try to do better than before, in all their work. Now, I have to find ways to get them to log-on and to want to continue learning online. Some have no Internet and/or never received a laptop, we do read alouds, academic games, the assignments are challenging because they are below grade level. I want to use more ebooks, interactive games, and activities.

My Project

Being prepared for learning from the classroom to online was not an option for us. Our classroom supplies were not enough to keep on top of planning and implementing instruction. I want my students to get the most out of distance learning. I have to adjust my lesson plans and make more copies of activities and handouts for class, so, I will need ink for the printer, laminate for manipulatives, and paper to print out lessons to put in binder. I need access to a DVD player and need a battery for my Dell computer and need ebooks from my Mac and need a battery laptop to use during class sessions. Because of the limited outlets for my technology and lights, I need the surge protector. I am getting new books for reading to my small groups and need a file organizer and containers to hold them.

“The most important principle for designing lively eLearning is to see eLearning design not as information design but as designing an experience” - Cathy Moore.

I want my students to have that first experience a positive experience. I need to be able to write out information and to make notes and need the pens. II need expo markers to write down information on a whiteboard for my anchor chart information.
