This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has a mission to prepare all students to be college ready in the 21st century. We seek to abolish the traditional standards and methods of instruction; while constructing a learning environment that fosters growth inside and outside of the classroom. Over 75% of the students that we serve are from households that are below the poverty line but they do not allow their situations to define them.
My students are only a part of a large community of scholars that are dedicated to shattering cycles of poverty through education.
My scholars strive to excel in all areas of academics despite the many challenges that they may face outside of our four walls. They are fascinated by the "why" and never stop asking questions. They are willing to take risks, even though they know the odds are stacked against them.
My students possess the drive and passion for learning that cannot be extinguished. This drive and passion will propel them forward in life as they continue to navigate the world around them.
My Project
Serving students that have limited access to resources has many challenges. Students not only have financial deficiencies but learning gaps as well. The supplies that I selected will work toward closing those gaps. My class uses whiteboards during daily instruction. The white boards are used for modeling work, sharing work with partners and basic fluency activities. The whiteboard exchanges in my class set the pace for student success. One of the drawbacks of using whiteboards is the constant need for dry erase markers and erasers. Access to dry erase markers can determine whether students only view the lesson or whether they get to participate in the lesson. I have also included pencils because I want all students to feel included in the class. I never want my students to be excluded from the lesson due to not having a pencil.
