Ms. Johnson from Winston Salem NC is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 4 Amazon Fire tablets so they can listen to books online, record themselves reading the books, and play math games online!

This is my fourth year teaching at a high poverty school. My student may have their own set of economical and environmental challenges but they show up excited and ready to learn!
My students are so special because even though they may not have the best situations at home, they don't let that stop them at school!
My school is a title I school with 99% of the students receiving free or reduced lunch. My students enjoy school and they are eager learners that have big dreams. I am so glad to be a part of their educational journey!
As a teacher in a high poverty school, many of my students show difficulties with reading but they work really hard daily to become better readers.
Many of my students don't have access to a lot of technology or reading materials at home.
They also may not have many opportunities to have someone read to them outside of the classroom.
These tablets would give my students a chance to listen to books being read to them by a fluent reader. This will help increase their fluency and also their use of vocabulary. They would also be able to take quizzes on the books they are reading to check for understanding. First grade students love technology and being able to use tablets to learn to read would bring them so much excitement. The tablets have microphones that would allow the students to record themselves reading. This gives me an opportunity to listen to my students read and gives them a chance to go back and listen to themselves. Plus, the students will be able to get some great independent practice throughout the day.
