This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 30 bright-eyed, energetic, 6 and 7-year-olds, from the south side of Chicago, who are eager to learn, explore, and have a place to belong. They are full of potential, but need the right tools to realize all of it.
They come from tough circumstances, but every day they come to school smiling and excited about what the day has in store.
Their smiles and perpetual optimism inspire me to work harder, make fewer excuses, and give them the good start they deserve in school.
My Project
Any space that is filled with kids every day needs to be kept clean! To keep our classroom nice and clean, we need to restock our supply of hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes. We use both of these things every day to make sure the classroom (and the kids) stay as clean and germ-free as possible. The hand sanitizer is used countless times a day, after every nose-blow and bathroom break, and each student uses a wipe to clean their desk before going home. The wipes also come in handy for countless other situations, like when there's an unexpected breakfast spill or glue stick residue left on a chair.
When the kids and classroom are clean, learning happens much more easily.
When students' desks are clean, they can focus all of their mental energy on completing their work - not on making sure their paper avoids the peanut butter mess leftover from breakfast. When students' hands are clean, they stay healthier and miss fewer days of school because of illness. A clean classroom is the foundation for making sure kids are happy, healthy and ready to learn!
