My students need bean bags in order to incorporate kinesthetic and tactile ways of keeping the beat in circle games and songs. Bean bags also need to stay clean and sanitary!
I teach K-6 general music and 5th grade band at a school south of Seattle where 79% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. A majority of our students are bilingual and thrive off of bringing different cultures into our music classroom. I will strive to provide music education that everyone can access, understand, and enjoy.
I came into my classroom this summer as a first year teacher, realizing that we are lacking in many materials in order to create an equal and opportune access to music education.
My goal is to create a fun-filled, functioning and equitable classroom for my students. I am passionate and determined about providing these kids what they deserve in order to achieve success in the music classroom.
My Project
Bean bags are a great resource to incorporate kinesthetic practices and activities. They can be used for all grade levels through circle games and songs which incorporate body percussion, movement and dance. Bean bags can also instill social skills and learning through sharing and passing bean bags. It will help bring fun and variation to instruction in my room!
Students love to handle tactile objects in order to physically feel concepts such as keeping a steady beat and learning rhythms.
Toss games can also be utilized to explore lines and spaces on the staff. So many enrichment activities can be incorporated in the music classroom with the use of bean bags! Clorox wipes will help us keep our bean bags sanitary after being used by so many students!
