My Students

Being able to perform and maintain a steady beat is essential in all aspects of making music. My hope is that this year, each child will be able to have a drum in hand for every steady beat and rhythm activity we do!

Our school is a new school that was built 3 years ago.

Because we are a new school, we have students from all over the district opting into our school, which means we have students from all economic statuses. We have 28% of our population on free and reduced lunches. The student population is primarily White but also includes Native American, African American, Asian, and Hispanic.

My Project

We will use the hand drums to work on steady beat, play rhythms that either I give them or they compose, drum out poetry and speech pieces, and play Orff ensemble pieces as they are written. We currently have to use the floor or chairs to play the hand drum parts.

Steady beat is essential in all music making.

Steady beat can also support reading fluency and beginning reading skills. By donating to this project, students will be able to each have an instrument in hand and will have more opportunities to develop that sense of steady beat. They will be able to perform and play each and every time we do a steady beat or rhythm activity. Drumming rhythms can help students feel the patterns of speech, reading and music.
