My students need stools, a bench, yoga mats and balls and scoop rockers to break away from the traditional tables and chairs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I school, where every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily because of the extremely high number of families that qualify.
All students come from different backgrounds and our school is a place where that is celebrated and embraced every day.
Kindergarten is a grade where many students are coming to school for the first time and are truly diving into the world of education. With advancing curriculum and the adversity some students have coming into school, kindergarten is the time and place to explore, experiment, and find a love for education.
My Project
Some individuals were just not made to sit perfectly at a table with a chair. Sitting still and focusing for 15+ minutes may not seem like much to an adult, but asking 25 five/six-year-olds to do it is no easy thing for the students or myself. Expectations for young children get higher every year, why not give students some freedom in areas that are possible to do so?
This year I would like to give all students an opportunity to sit the traditional way or to find a way that may better suit their need to stretch out, stand, or move to work.
The yoga balls and scoop rockers give them the opportunity to move without disturbing their work or other students. The yoga mats allow students to sit or lay in different positions safely and also have some cushion in between them and the carpet. The bench gives them back support and a group of students can sit together or lay their legs out. Nearly all of these items can be moved around easily, which also gives them the freedom to choose where they would like to sit anywhere in the classroom.
A big step in this shift of seating is that students will have the ability to choose what works best for them, letting them explore different options and their own personal needs/preferences.
