Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school excited to learn. They attend a high poverty school with very limited resources. 85% of our students are offered a free hot breakfast and lunch. A large number of my students attend a before-school program and an after-school program, leaving them at school for close to a total of 8-10 hours per day. Our school is like a second home to my students. I am always looking for more ways to engage my students and nurture their love of learning.
All students need to come to school and feel safe.
My Project
Students should come to school feeling safe and protected. The door blocking devices requested create a quick, temporary stronghold on the door to prevent forced entry by intruders and to keep occupants safely locked inside in an emergency situation. The Magnetic Lockdown Strips will also be used as security preparation for an intruder defense situation. When Lockdowns occur, the teacher needs to quickly get their keys and lock their door. These strips are an extremely fast classroom lockdown method for doors with steel frames. Teachers only need to open the door, remove the strip, and the door is immediately locked.
Lockdowns are scary times for little ones, can happen anytime throughout the day, and sometimes last more than a couple of hours.
The healthy snacks requested will allow my students to have food stored in my classroom for lockdowns purposes.
