This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school district is part of a rural community with 80% of the student population coming from low-income households.
My students are intellectually gifted 3rd-grade students.
Students come to my classroom through a daily one hour "pull-out program" for a total of 5 hours per week. My class size ranges from 9 to 12 students. I have a total of 40 students in 4 different class periods.
My students come to my classroom excited to explore the world of critical thinking skills, creativity, group dynamics, communication, research, effective and life skills, and self-directed learning.
My Project
I see 40 students each day through a pull out gifted education program. Some of my students come to my class right after lunch, recess, or other activities. This makes it difficult for them to bring supplies with them. So I provide supplies for them to use in my classroom. The Ticonderoga pencils are easy to sharpen and last a long time for daily journal writing assignments. We also need colored pencils that are not always breaking and easier to sharpen. The Prang (Dixon Ticonderoga) Colored Pencils are better in quality and would be used in multiple art projects.
If you have pencils, then you must have a reliable way to sharpening them.
The X-ACTO School Electric Pencil Sharpener is designed to sharpen large quantities of pencils each day. My current pencil sharpener can only sharpen around 5 pencils before overheating and automatically shutting itself off. This larger pencil sharpener would be able to keep pencils sharp for my 40 students. I am also requesting a Stanley Bostitch Manual Pencil Sharpener for the colored pencils. The colored pencils tend to clog the electric pencil sharpeners.
