Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special because they have a desire to learn. My students come from mostly immigrant families and families who are trying to make ends meet. Our families are wonderful and we want to give them every opportunity we can for their children to be successful in high school and beyond. Their families moved here so their children can receive a better education and the students recognize that and it inspires them daily.
My students are special because they may be the first in their families to graduate, they may be the first ones to college and the first ones to eventually own a home.
We strive to provide all the opportunities we can for these active, vibrant, full of life students who know this is their time to shine. This is their chance to make a difference for their families and their futures.
My Project
These magazines have always been a highlight of the day! It is a fun way to introduce different ideas and concepts in science without the textbook. The kids enjoy their personal magazine and can be an active engaged reader when they know they can write in the magazine, annotate, and find interesting parts to debate.
These magazines make a difference because students take interest in the new material they are learning about which promotes discussion and debate.
The classroom lights up with discussion after we read the articles. Reading the magazine sparks new ideas in the students heads about their further projects, their future areas of study and their pure enjoyment of science!
