This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my class attend an urban school district with limited financial resources. Most of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches. They have a range of learning abilities and come from diverse backgrounds. The typical student in my class needs activities that promote unity and teamwork. My students need ways to communicate with others in fun and engaging ways.

My students deserve an opportunity to interact and thrive in a diverse classroom that supports and promotes 21st-century standards and expectations.

My students need resources to address a variety of deficiencies in social-emotional learning as well as academic grade-level expectations. Although most cannot afford to buy the basic resources like paper, pencils, and notebooks because of financial hardships, they are eager to learn. They deserve an engaging and rigorous learning experience during a pandemic.

My Project

My project is to create a safe and healthy classroom. Having a safe and healthy class is essential to us all, especially students returning to in-person learning during this pandemic. The batteries are needed for individual Friday Drop Everything and Read flashlights. The surge protector is needed for our lunch time charging station that does not have enough outlets. Fifth graders are amazing humans, but they need reminders to sneeze into their arms, blow their noises appropriately, and sanitize! The Lysol wipes will keep our community spaces germ free.

Having needed supplies helps maintain safe routines and keeps us all safe, healthy and learning.

Obtaining essential supplies will allow us to clean regularly and disinfect our classroom in order to avoid the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID, colds, and flu. The supplies will support classroom routines and instruction to keep students learning. The post-it notes will be used for exit tickets. I want to make sure my students have the supplies they need to be successful at school in a safe and healthy classroom.
