In the heart of the cultural center in midtown Detroit, I teach pre-kindergarten students who are a part of the Great Start Readiness Program. The program is a state-funded preschool for four-year-old children with factors which may place them at risk of educational failure.
For many of my students, GSRP will be their first experience in a school setting.
When they have an impressionable, positive experience in their early years, it can set the path to success for the future.
My Project
Using a variety of writing and drawing tools, I hope to keep my students engaged in activities while distance learning. Not being in the classroom, my students access to colored pencils, crayons, scissors, and drawing pads are limited due to our state's stay-at-home order.
Preschoolers need to be actively engaged to learn.
Expecting preschoolers to watch their teacher online and participate is difficult for them if they have nothing to do but observe. Hopefully with school supplies at hand, my students will be able to participate along with me while we're doing online instruction.
